About Soran Hamarash

Soran Hamarash is a Kurdish academic, writer, historian and linguist. He has published books and articles about Kurdish history, culture and religious minorities. He has featured in numerous TV and radio programs from the UK and other countries in relation to the Kurds and the Middle East.ss

Hamarash was the director of the Kurdish Cultural Centre in London for some years where he worked with various academics and others in the field of Kurdish studies. He has spent 30 years of his life studying Kurdish history and has a broad knowledge of ancient languages such as the Sumerian, Hurrian, Hittite and other dead languages, as well as the ancient religions of the region, which serves as his map for navigating the history of the Middle east.

His most recent addition to his contributions is a book entitled \‘The Lost and Untold History of the Kurds.\’ This book challenges the current conventional understanding of the history of the Kurds, through using archaeological, genetic, linguistic, historical and other evidence.

There is currently no academic book to adequately tell the ancient history of the Kurds. The Kurds' origin is still a mystery for historians. They are presently portrayed in history books as the people who suddenly emerge from the Middle Ages. This book demonstrates that the foundation of the current understanding about ancient history was not set for the purpose of knowing the past; rather, it was to serve ideological, religious, and political agendas. In many cases, this manifested non-objective approaches among scholars, which has resulted in dealing with the people in historical records selectively and in isolation from each other. Consequently, the organic nature of human society is not currently reflected in the existing historiography, and this has led to a significant misunderstanding about ancient history. For the Kurds, it has led to a lost and untold history.
